Longtime Amherst residents Maurice Young and his son, Ken, built the course in 1979 and opened it a year later. Ken Young has managed Buckmeadow since his father retired.

Holes 7 and 9 are another couple of tough doglegs that require accurate irons off the tee. While golfers easily can be frustrated by holes that turn left and right, the nice thing about Buckmeadow's dogleg holes is they are short, so the approach shot is always a reasonable distance.
The course has a real small town atmosphere. Briggs is warm and welcoming, and she knows her golf, too. She's always willing to chat about the past weekend's PGA or LPGA tournament.
