The first was a Sandstone Cellars V 2007, a blend of Syrah Primitivo, mourvedre, and Grenache; the Sandstone Cellars VI 2008, a blend of Touriga, Barbera, Primitivo and Zinfandel; and the Sandstone Cellars IV 2006 vintage port style dessert wine.
In 1998, friends Scott Haupert and Manny Silerio who first met in college in San Antonio, opened Santos Tacqueria in an old converted gas station near downtown Mason.
Manny's mother, Santos Silerio, originally from Durango, Mexico, learned her cooking skills there before she immigrated to the United States.
Manny and Scott have recently opened up a wine bar in a refurbished house adjacent to the winery. Here in modern furnishings, one can sample various Texas wines in addition to their Sandstone blends. There is even a big Louis Vuitton Belt Reversible

Next to the restaurant is Sandstone Wine Cellars, a small boutique winery, started in 2003 also by Scott and Manny. The wine maker is Don Pulliam, who owns Akashic Vineyards in Mason, which provides the grapes for the winery. Don was originally an Ivy league trained businessman who developed a taste for fine wine.
During my visit to the winery, I tasted three wines, all reds.
Bottles of their wine as well as other Texas wines can be purchased at the winery and taken next door to enjoy with the meal for a wonderful pairing of Old World Mexican food with wine. In addition, fine New Mexico style artwork is available for sale at the winery.

The main varietals found in Sandstone wines are generally hearty red grapes with origins from around the Mediterranean area such as southern France, Italy and Spain. These grapes grow well in Texas as the hot dry climate is similar to those southern European locations.
Don obtained the vineyard in 1998 and begin planting the primitivo grape, a varietal thought to be the forerunner of the modern red zinfandel grape. Soon Don was planting different types of grapes, and the first wine released was the Gucci Belts Black 2004 Sandstone Cellars Syrah.
She now runs the kitchen and prepares most of the food herself. Her cooking style is distinctly Old World, where instead of typical Tex Mex fare, she provides fresh and inexpensive items such as gorditas, tacos, tacquitos, quesadillas, nachos and Chile con Queso. In addition, Santos makes four different fresh salsas daily. The restaurant is always packed with locals, visitors to the Mason area and even the seasonal hunters.
The history of how the two places became linked is fascinating.
On the way to San Antonio for a recent business trip, I stopped for lunch at the Santos Tacqueria and Cantina and afterward went Louis Vuitton Belt Black Buckle
